While AARC has long led the charge on aspirational competencies for specialized practice, the counseling profession still wrestles with how (and whether) to incorporate practice-focused competencies for entry-level counselors. After a brief review of instruction in assessment, diagnostic practice, research, and program evaluation for entry-level counselors, we will explore the benefits of recentering counselor education on practice-focused competencies.
